The EA Play Label of video game maker Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) said Tuesday that the late night expansion pack of virtual game The Sims 3, for PC/MAC computers, shipped today to retail stores across North America and Europe.
“The Sims 3 Late Night is one of the most fun expansion packs we’ve made to date and it includes activities that players will enjoy including becoming a celebrity, vampire or world class mixologist,” said general manager of The Sims Studio at EA, Scott Evans.
“From hot tubs and celebrities to vampires and bands, this expansion pack gives players the opportunity to tell the stories of what happens after work and offers a great backdrop for endless creative possibilities.”
The Sims franchise is a game series that allows players to create and live a virtual, simulated life on a computer, launched in February 2000. The series is now translated into 22 different languages and available in 60 different countries. Since The Sims 3 June 2009 launch, it has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide to date.
The Sims 3 Late Night is about giving players different settings to have fun during the night. It gives players the option to befriend a vampire and eventually ask their new friend to turn them into one of their kind. Once changed, players will find that their Sims, the characters unique to The Sims games, have thirst instead of hunger, can run faster and read minds. Players can also help their Sims become celebrities and can push their Sim into a brand new film or music career.
The Sims 3 is currently available for PC, Mac, iPhone, iPod touch and mobile devices. Beginning today, The Sims 3 is also available on the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS. The game will also launch on the Wii in November.
